ENTRANCE | The first point of entry will, in all likelihood, be your front door. Make certain that your guests can easily find it. Obvious though this may seem, I can't tell you how many parties I've been to where I'm left roaming up and down a dark street, trying to find some clue as to which house I'm expected to walk into. Replace those glaring white floodlights with moody colored bulbs; string decorative Christmas lights along the top of the doorway, the shrubbery, etc; in short, make it glaringly obvious to your guests that this is the site of the party. You'll also want to keep the front door slightly ajar (but not completely open, unless you want your neighbors ringing up the police in complaint of the noise pollution), so that your guests can easily let themselves in, should the sound of their knocks be muffled by the party noise and hence unheard.
