Minor MAKEOVER Miracles: KITCHEN  9 ways to spiff up your kitchen | 1 2 3
continued from page 2

7. Install hooks
On the insides of cabinet doors, above countertops, wherever you have a tiny bit of space to spare -- hooks are a great way to get things organized, and to make smart use of space. Small hooks can be used to hang oven mitts and dishtowels; heavy-duty hooks can hold pots and pans, your favorite mugs. Go with the simple elegance of stainless steel-finished hooks, or add a splash of color by painting your hooks.

8. Picture it.
Hang some pictures. This might seem obvious, but it’s amazing how often we neglect the kitchen when it comes to wall décor. Frame your favorite photos, or your collection of kitschy postcards. Or try these other do-it-yourself wall art ideas. Just be sure that if you're hanging a beloved work of art anywhere near the stove or sink (or anywhere else there's a tendency to get food/water all over the place) you keep it well-protected behind glass.

9. Go green …
There’s nothing like some healthy plant life to liven up a dull kitchen.  Grow a kitchen herb garden on your windowsill, adding a ledge if necessary. Or cultivate a pretty houseplant or two. If you don’t get much natural light in your kitchen, you can buy special full-spectrum plant-growing bulbs at any hardware store; just pop one into an existing light socket, and make sure you give your plants several hours of fake sunshine a day. But stick with low-light-loving plants, like devil’s ivy or a spider plant, if you want to keep your electricity bills low.
