Making room |  Darleen made clever use of fun retro wallpaper snagged on Ebay: "One effect I'm particularly proud of is the snowflake orange-flocked metallic wallpaper around the front door in the dining hall. That area is truly not large enough to be a dining room, but the pattern on the wallpaper gives the illusion that that the room is wider than it really is."
lighten up |  Because the space is a lot like a loft -- a large, open space -- the colors had to be consistent and compatible with each of the different living areas. Notes Darleen: "I had to find a color scheme that I REALLY like, since I can't go from one room -- or fantasy -- to the other." Using a warm palette of colors proved the most effective way to cozy up the dark basement space. >
