4 spook-tacular Halloween libations
by Yee-Fan Sun

Having folks over for a Halloween hootenanny this Friday night?  Beer is dandy, but to earn yourself extra props as the host(ess) with the most(ess), extend the spooky-eerie-theme of the evening to your drink offerings as well. Try serving up some of these creepy cocktails…

eyeball-tini
for the eyeball
radish
pimento-stuffed olive

With a small paring knife, carefully cut and scrape out a small nook in the top of the radish that's just big enough to accommodate the olive. Use a zester to remove stripes of the outer skin of the radish, until you have a mostly pinkish-white exterior shot through with thin veins of red. Pop in the pimento-stuffed olive and voila! You have yourself one fine bloodshot eyeball.

for the martini
3 oz. gin of your choice
1 Tbsp. dry vermouth (use more if you like a wet martini, less if you like it dry)

Shake or stir the gin and vermouth with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with an eyeball or two.

black magic
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. Kahlua
splash of lemon juice
lemon twist

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir gently. Strain into a glass over ice. Garnish with a lemon twist.

vampire A sweet bloody-red cocktail to tempt those creatures of the night…

1.5 oz. vodka
1.5 oz. chambord
1.5 oz. cranberry juice
a good splash of lime juice

Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

black devil
4 parts rum
1 part dry vermouth
black olive

Shake the rum and vermouth with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a black olive.
