8 Tidy and cull. You have your coat racks and shoe racks, hooks, pegs and shelves – all sorts of handy places to hang and stash once you walk in that front door. But wait: your organizing work’s not done. See, as time goes on, you’ll likely find more shoes and coats accumulating on those racks, more mail and miscellany piling up on that nice little shelf. To prevent things from degenerating into another scary mountainous mess, tidy up from time to time, keeping only what’s useful out there in the entryway. And since the more often you perform the weeding process, the less painful it’ll be, don’t wait until the entryway’s completely un-navigable before attending to the issue. 9 Seasonal shifts. Finally, make sure to rotate outerwear and shoes with the seasons. You will not be needing that puffy down parka during the summer; likewise, that light, unlined corduroy jacket is unlikely to see much use in the dark depths of winter. A couple of times of year, swap your outerwear as necessary between deep storage and front entryway, and back again. o o o With the addition of a few handy places to stash your stuff and some minor maintenance, you’ll find coming home through that front door a whole lot more pleasurable. o check
