7. Bend each wire into an hook. Attach each hooked  wire to one of the terminals on the base of the socket. NOTE: You’ll want to make sure that you’ve got the hooks aiming off to the right, in such a way that when you tighten the screws (clockwise), the screw will be rotating in the same direction that the hook is aiming.

8. Almost done now .... Pull the wire taut so that the socket rests securely in the lampshade. Attach the screws that hold the shade in place:

9. Pop in a bulb, plug in the cord, and voilà!

We've used a groovy red bulb, and wrapped the cord around our coat rack, completing the transformation of our one dollar thrift shop find into a spiffy 60s/70s space-age-style spotlight.
