think pink
beyond
the cosmopolitan

Yeah,
yeah: I love a good cosmo
too. It's a little sweet, a little tart; it's the perfect pretty shade
of pink. But seriously, don't you get just the tiniest bit tired of
serving up the same old same old cocktails to your guests? The next time
you're playing host, expand your drink offerings just a smidge. Try one
of these tasty variations on a theme of pink…
jasmine
Invented in the 90s by San Francisco bartender Paul Harrington, who
coauthored the excellent Cocktail:
The Drinks Bible for the 21st Century, the Jasmine isn't nearly
as girly a drink as its pretty pink hue would suggest. The Campari gives
this drink a bitter edge that's perfectly set off by the tartness of the
lemon juice; the result is a delicious, sophisticated grapefruity
cocktail.
1.5 oz gin
1/4 oz Cointreau
1/4 oz Campari
3/4 oz lemon juice
Combine all the ingredients in
a cocktail shaker with ice. Give it a good shake, and strain into a
cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
kretchma
cocktail
Here's a pink drink for those who like their cocktails to go down nice
and easy.
1 oz. vodka
1 oz. white crème de cacao
½ oz. lemon juice
dash o' grenadine
Add all the ingredients to a
cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake it up, strain into a cocktail
glass, and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
pomegranate
martini
Ever since Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice started gracing juice aisles,
it seems that pomegranate-based cocktails have become quite the hip
drinks du jour. This pomegranate martini showcases the sweet-tart
goodness of the fruit.
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. pomegranate juice
½ oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
1 Tbsp. simple syrup
Pour all the ingredients into
a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass, and
garnish with a sprig of mint or lemon wheel.
