If throwing a great party were as simple as tossing out a big spread of free food and drink, and hollering out a hearty "Come and get it!" to all who would listen, truly excellent parties would be a far more common occurrence. Alas, there’s a bit more to party strategizing than that – and one of the key factors you’ll want to take into account if you’re hosting a soirée is how to use your space, no matter how big or small, to maximum advantage. Parties tend to have very definite focal points, areas where guests subconsciously but inevitably cluster (read: your cramped and messy kitchen), and the only way to control where these gathering spots happen – and to force some flow towards other, perhaps more aesthetically pleasing portions of the entertaining space -- is through some careful thought and shrewd staging.
