on the Path Unless you happen to be a DJ, you’ll want to avoid having to maintain constant vigilance over what song to play next. Here’s where the 5 or 6-disc CD-changer comes in handy. Pop in a few good compilation CDs, hit random, and voila! You’ve got an instant party soundtrack that’ll last at least a couple of hours. Of course, making your own mixes ahead of time (either by burning your own CDs or doing it the old-fashioned way on tape) is even better than using pre-made compilations (which inevitably contain one or two real stinkers in the collection), although it’s a lot more work. It’s important to realize, though, that the best music to play at a party may not necessarily be the music you most enjoy listening to in your spare time. Party music isn’t great music (necessarily); it’s fun music that sets a mood. 7 Have
